Anna Karenina’s Costume Design
Dear readers I’ve been thinking on this post ever since I saw the trailer from Anna Karenina, and it’s finally here.
This idea came when I saw the costumes from the movie, not to mention that I’m a big fan of those kind of stories they just take me back to the old ages, I just adore them.
Let me tell you a little bit about the movie, directed by Joe Wright and starred by Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Johnson; this movie is inspired in the iconic novel Anna Karenina by Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy published on 1877. This novel is full of strong and intense emotions, such as love, passion and desire. The movie take us back to the late 19th century, and it makes the public be accomplice of a love story and a series of adultery acts between the Russian high society. It was filmed in 12 weeks, with approximately 100 different sets, how wonderful! All of the scenes have such perfect sceneries, so according to the time and they are so dramatic and full of elegance, representing really well the high society.
I believe that some of you had already watched it, you won’t let me lie.. this is an epic production and really worth watching it, I don’t know the release date in the different countries, but at least in the US was ready since the end of the past year.
About of the recognition of the hard working and great quality of the movie: The actual point of this post is to introduce you to the amazing and hard-working costume designer Jacqueline Durran, her work was so perfect, delightful and flawless that she’s nominated for the Academy Award for the Best Costume Design (actually her 3rd nomination), hope she wins it!! The costumes are so well designed and they just have that touch of opulence and glamour.
But the greatest part is that there are 4 Academy Award nominations for this movie, in the categories of: cinematography, costume design, music and production design.
